Not only are you craving for a particular food, but also want to try some weird food combinations sometimes. According to research from the 1970s through today, 50 to 90 percent of women experience cravings for specific foods during pregnancy.  

Is It Normal Not To Have Cravings During Pregnancy?

It is perfectly normal not to have food cravings during pregnancy. Food cravings can change your eating habits and nutritional balance, therefore it’s important to manage your cravings in a healthy way. Also, if the cravings for certain foods is strong, it will be wise to consult a doctor. This will help to find out if there is an underlying health issue such as zinc deficiency. So, addressing cravings wisely is the key to managing your health effectively.

How Long Do Pregnancy Cravings Last?

This depends on your body system and sometimes your environment. Some women may have cravings throughout their pregnancy, some will have for a limited period, and some will not have them at all. Sometimes, you will just crave for a day, a week, or a month.

These following healthy tips will help you manage cravings in a healthy way during pregnancy:

Do not skip breakfast

Start your day with the right nutrition so you can have enough fuel to power through the day. Without a healthy morning meal, you also may feel sick to your stomach, lightheaded and extremely tired.

Eat at regular intervals

Don’t wait till you’re hungry, eat in bits. Plan small meals at regular intervals throughout the day, so that you will not have to eat unhealthy junk foods. Eat about four to six small meals a day.

Exercise regularly

One surprising way to beat cravings is through physical activities. It helps relax the body by releasing endorphins. It will put you in a good mood and will control your hormonal levels. You can engage in exercises like walking, swimming, dancing, yoga etc. This will help curb those cravings.  

Control food portions

Even when the cravings come, control the portion you take. Instead of taking the whole pack of snacks or the whole bar of chocolate just take a small portion. 

Choose healthy snacks

How about eating some fun snacks like nuts, fruits, fruity popsicles, and other nutritious delicacies. Try to keep them handy, so whenever you’re hungry you can easily reach out to them. 

Drink plenty of water and other fluids

Sometimes, you may confuse thirst for hunger, it’s important to drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day. This will not only keep you hydrated but also make your skin fresh and glowing, control your stretch marks and cravings. If you find it difficult to drink water you could spice it up by adding fruits to your water like lemons, you can also try to have plenty of other fluids like soups and fresh coconut water.

Keep junk food away

Instead of stocking up with candies, ice creams, chocolates, swap them with fruits and if you don’t keep them in sight, it is out of mind. When you don’t have something at home you’re less likely to eat it.

Try new recipes

Variety is the spice of life. Try different recipes and delicious meals. The more you enjoy your food, the less you will feel hungry.
